Okay, it can stop being cold any time now…
But, let’s get over that and focus on all of the fun we’ve got going on.
Had an awesome time at Como’s for our casual networking event last week, we’ve got our next event at a new location – a brewery no less, there’s a blog entry or two out there for you to read, a chat with Detroit Unspun turned into a good piece on 4 tips to get a job, IT in The D is less than two months away, and wow do we have a lot happening.
Let’s get started…
First thing’s first, our next event.
Thursday, February 21st at Falling Down Beer Company.
Yes, Falling Down Beer Company. Much like Tipsy McStaggers, I’m halfway convinced people are naming their bars specifically to get people like me intrigued and demanding to go there. Plus, it’s apparently owned by a couple of IT guys who got sick of being IT guys and so they opened a brewery.
If nothing else, it’s worth showing up just to watch Bob’s head explode because someone is living his dream.
So that’s where we’ll be for our next casual networking event for metro Detroit information technology professionals.
We’re pretty sure it won’t break your heart. Except for Bob, of course.
Details, as always, can be found here on our site – https://itinthed.com/event/february-casual-networking-social-2012/, out on Meetup: http://meetup.itinthed.com, and out on our Facebook page: http://www.facebook.com/ITintheD.
We’re looking forward to seeing you there.
Our event last week at Como’s was pretty solid. There’s a full write up available out here – https://itinthed.com/4904/comos-january-event-recap/ – if you’d like to catch up.
And of course we’ve got IT in The D basically just around the corner. Our preliminary schedule of events went live – https://itinthed.com/4927/preliminary-it-in-the-d-schedule-of-events-is-live/ – and so now you can start to see what we’re putting together for you.
We’ve had some really good feedback come in from the sponsors about tweaking a detail or two here and there to help make the events flow and work better for everyone, and I’m even more convinced that we’re going to be doing something that’s going to blow your doors off.
We’re starting to talk about guarantees and numbers with catering, and so get yourself over to https://itinthed.com/it-in-the-d/ to read up, check some details, and get those tickets.
A plug for IT in the D showed up in a really cool (if I do say so myself) article that’s out there live right now on Detroit Unspun: http://blog.thedetroithub.com/2013/01/22/how-to-get-a-job-in-detroit-four-tips-to-get-hired/ It’s “How to get a job in Detroit: Four tips to get hired“, and it’s the result of me and one of their writers sitting down for a few hours and having a chat. And I know this is going to come as a surprise, but there wasn’t even any beer involved.
I know, I know…you’re either stunned into silence or just snorting derisively in disbelief, but it’s true.
It really is a great piece, and it covers the topics from several of our blogs over the years in one nice, concise format, so go give it a read and then spend some time clicking around Detroit Unspun since there’s a lot of great coverage of things happening downtown without a filter or an agenda. Kind of refreshing.
On the blogs front, two of my old favorites bubbled back up.
Lessons From a Child’s Toy out at https://itinthed.com/30/lessons-from-a-childs-toy/ was written back right before our first Pink Slip Party. It still holds very true, and has some great career advice in there…as well as why I respect the hell out of recruiters who are good at their jobs. And you also get to read about me getting hurt, which is something I know most of you enjoy.
The $20 Lesson has some solid insights on how to act, react, and interact with people at events and just during the course of life in general. It’s one of a few entries that spawned from me starting to hang out with stand up comics, and it hass some solid advice. So go read it over at https://itinthed.com/4003/the-twenty-dollar-lesson/

Oh hey – as a random side note to those of you who haven’t totally tuned out by this point – if you’re going to be bored on Sunday, February 10th in the late afternoon to early evening, you should totally come out and play with us in one of the world’s diviest dive bars to watch wrestling. Live wrestling. With a lot of beer. And a guy with one leg who wrestles. And a drunk clown. And that’s not even the half of it. Seriously, it’s a blast. Details are out on Yelp if you’re interested in joining us. And by “us”, I mean “Bob and I and some of our friends”. And by “join”, I mean “hang out”. Because seriously, if you try and talk shop with us while we’ve turned off our brains to enjoy ourselves, we’ll totally volunteer you to get flogged with a metal folding chair.
Double…dog…dare…you.
And on that note, that’s the news, and we…are…outta here! Go get those IT in the D tickets!
Regards,
Bob, Dave and Jeff
