Well, here we are in May already.
We’ve got our next event in two weeks, a few pretty solid blog entries for you to check out, some discussions going on in our LinkedIn group as well as jobs posted in there as well, and all sorts of other random fun and excitement.
So let’s go ahead and dive in…
As always, let’s lead off with our next event.
Novi.
Lucky Strike (or just “Lucky’s”, as some call it) in Fountainwalk.
5:01pm start time, just like always.
We’re taking over the entire front area…actually, you know what? Let’s keep this simple – anything and everything you need to know is already published out on the event page: https://itinthed.com/event/may-casual-networking-social-2013/
Go forth, read, and we’ll see you on May 16th.
As always, details can also be found out on our Facebook page at http://www.facebook.com/ITintheD, or in our Meetup group at http://meetup.itinthed.com.
Details on all of our upcoming events will always hit our site first, so you’ll want to pay attention to our events page at https://itinthed.com/our-events/.
Anything late-breaking or last-minute will tend to be posted on our Facebook page (again – http://www.facebook.com/ITintheD) and on our twitter feed at http://www.twitter.com/ITintheD, so you might want to “like” and “follow” us on those platforms, respectively.
Since we went to the actual award ceremony and presentation on Tuesday night, congratulations to Bob on making the Elite 40 under 40.
Which, as of just a few hours after the event wrapped up…he’s no longer eligible for. Talk about sneaking in under the wire…
Believe it or not, we survived the night without getting tossed out for being loud, or rude, or obnoxious.
The photo to the right will not be hard to believe at all, I know…us? Beer? At an event of any kind?
You’re stunned, I know.
We made some great contacts that night, so it was definitely a good thing.
And in all due seriousness, congrats again to Bob for making the cut and winning the award. (there were hundreds of people nominated…I just assumed there were only 4o nominations that came in…haha…)
Blog entries? Yeah, we’ve got a few of those for ya.
First up – recruiters, I’m working on a new blog entry that may actually be of some benefit to you. I’d like to have it wrapped up and published this weekend for early next week, so please take a minute to read this entry – https://itinthed.com/5160/recruiters-tell-us-where-you-fit-on-the-path/ – and tell us where you fit on “The Path”.
Next up, an oldie but goodie…in fact, one of the first ones I wrote around here called “The Recliner Principle“. You know how when you’re kicked back in a comfy recliner and feeling all awesome…but then you run out of beer…and the inner struggle begins to figure out if you’re going to go get that beer or stay in the comfy chair knowing that means you can’t have what you want? Guess what? There’s a career analogy there too, kids. Read https://itinthed.com/22/the-recliner-principle/ and find out more.
Then we take you over to The Bachelor Party Hypothesis, which walks you through an extremely crucial step while networking – understanding the tiers of the relationships that you’re building, and learning why it matters not just where you define someone, but also where someone defines you as being in their world. Click on over to https://itinthed.com/3316/the-bachelor-party-hypothesis/ and enjoy the one and only time you’ll ever see us use a pyramid in any of our conversations without using the words “no” or “get out”.
Finally, we’d like to take a moment to remind “Social Media Experts” that there is no such thing…as a “Social Media Expert“. Not them. Not you. Certainly not any of us. Anyone who says they are probably needs a good dose of condescending sarcasm, so keep https://itinthed.com/3035/you-are-not-a-social-media-expert/ handy and pass it around as needed.
So now let’s go ahead and hop on over to our LinkedIn group, which lives out at http://www.linkedin.com/groups/ITintheDorg-Detroit-Networking-Events-IT-91763
– Got a question in through here on the site last night that I through out there, and maybe one of you can help. A mom wrote in asking where she might be able to send her high school student for either a summer camp type experience or perhaps even an internship that would be IT / technical oriented near Warren. Got anything? http://lnkd.in/xJmf8e
– It’s out there, and it’s time to chat about it. Age discrimination in the IT industry, and what it means to you from a career path and planning perspective. http://lnkd.in/Sjfrrf
– Some questions for those of you who run as 1099 workers about how you handle worker’s comp and other issues. http://lnkd.in/g-dJPY
– Grants for training still available! http://lnkd.in/WpXSzP
And jobs? Yep, jobs to be found in there too: http://www.linkedin.com/groups?careerDiscussion=&gid=91763
Right now, there are postings in there from recruiters who hang out with the group for Adobe forms developers, .Net and Java developers, QA leads, Active Directory admins, front end developers, back end developers, SQL coders, analysts, Windows engineers, and just about any other kind of gig you could hope for.
Best part? Most of the folks posting those gigs are going to be at our event on the 16th, so read up, make contact, and then plan to meet them at Lucky Strike.
Again, gigs are at http://www.linkedin.com/groups?careerDiscussion=&gid=91763
See you in a couple weeks at Lucky’s: https://itinthed.com/our-events/
Regards,
Bob, Dave and Jeff
